8 Years Since I Took Rule One Workshop
After my divorce in 2017 I moved across the country looking to start to fresh. I picked up the book InvestEd and found it extremely interesting. I saw that Phil Town gave 3 day workshops in Atlanta (at that time in person and, as I recall, free or very low price). It looked and felt like a scam and I was very hesitant. I finally decided to go and thought I would just leave if it was something bad. That workshop was so valuable!! The volunteers and other students were so supportive. I really put a lot of effort into it and learned some stuff. At one point we were supposed to write out a promise to ourselves. I felt like a fraud but my promise was to trust myself making financial decisions. Jamaal, one of the speakers and later my very favorite instructor, struck up a conversation in the hallway and he also encouraged me to have confidence in myself. I signed up for the weekly online classes which were expensive but I was determined to learn how to do this. I attended every class, studied, practiced and asked lots of questions. I eventually started trading with real money and I've never looked back. Last year I met with a financial adviser bc I'm in my 60's now and I wanted to make sure I'm doing what I need to be doing. He looked at all my accounts and info and asked me how I learned to trade options and why I only own individual stocks, no mutual funds. I told him about the book and the classes and the whole story. He was surprised and smiling and told me that I should not hire him bc he could not justify his fee with me. I was already doing so well that I did not need him. I still trade every week. I still use the Rule One tools and I often refer back to the class info that I printed out and kept in binders. In the beginning, Rule One helped my confidence. Since then, Rule One has paid for itself many times. If you are willing to do the work Rule One is worth the tuition.
