Discriminatory and Inconsistent Policy at Sex Geek Summer Camp
I had high hopes for attending Sex Geek Summer Camp in Portland, Oregon, organized by Reid Mihalko, but my experience has been nothing short of exasperating and disappointing. Reid requires all attendees to be vaccinated, which I respect as a policy. However, he does not mandate the latest booster, meaning attendees can have varying levels of immunity, potentially lower than mine, as someone who has natural immunity. Despite this, Reid agreed to "consider" allowing me to attend if I could demonstrate my immunity status. Taking him at his word, I paid for and underwent a COVID antibody test, which confirmed my immunity. Yet, Reid has now reneged on his agreement and refuses to let me attend, even though my immunity might be higher than some vaccinated attendees. This is clearly not about safety but about discrimination against those who have chosen not to get the vaccine. Moreover, Reid did offer to reimburse me for the cost of the antibody test, which I appreciate, but it feels like a small consolation given the circumstances. His response included a claim that making an exception would cause emotional distress for other attendees, which seems like a convenient excuse rather than a valid reason. In my interactions with Reid, he made time to discuss and explain the policy during a retreat and considered possible alternatives, yet the outcome was a flat rejection. This inconsistent and seemingly discriminatory approach is both frustrating and unfair. I expected more from an event that promotes openness and inclusivity. Reid, if your goal is truly to keep people safe, then consider that immunity, whether from vaccination or natural antibodies, should be equally recognized. As it stands, your policy feels more like a means to exclude rather than protect. #SexGeekSummerCamp #DisappointedAttendee #UnfairPolicies
