As a teacher, I'm disgusted
As a teacher, as a tutor and tutoring business owner, and as a 4.0 STEM student (Molecular bio and biochem) I can proudly say - without bias and due to a surplus of evidence and experimentation - that Mastering Pearson/Pearson MyLab is the absolute WORST program, built from the WORST software, worst coding, worst netcode, worst server infrastructure, and worst developers I have ever been forced to interact with. Want to do your homework? No, API errors, servers are down. Want to login? No, down due to maintenance. Want to format your answer specifically, nope, the formatting tools won't let you, and you'll get it wrong no matter what. Hoping that after an hour or so, the website will be back up? Nope, you'll be unable to do homework for up to 24 hours. I've had students come to me after crying to themselves in their cars, begging me for a time extension, or asking how they got certain answers wrong, when their answer was right all along. I find out: Oh, the website was down, the answer submission API was being processed byP Pearson's back-end. Or perhaps they got the answers correct, but Pearson just formatted incorrectly, or crashed during the answer submission and deleted their entry. To think that this is a tool which contributes toward a students entire academic and career future via grades, is just horrifying. I have reached the point where I not only never use this horrid tool, nor my colleagues, but any professor or teacher that uses this for homework and testing, is simply lazy and isn't even fulfilling their duty as an educator, but is instead acting only as a "website link provider."
