I was contacted by several different people, who had obviously notcommunicated with each other, all sending me the same, useless information. My request to cancel the order I had paid for for "book of the week" because I couldn't meet the conditions set, have so far been ignored

If I could leave negative stars I…
If I could leave negative stars I would. I will be brief. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! They will do everything in their power not to pay you. If you fix your review they will find another excuse not to pay you. And customer service is horrible, when you find them. If you can read the authors' mind about what they consider profanity and sexual content, you might have a chance. I was promised $50 for buying a book, reading the book, and writing a review. I upheld my end of the deal, they did not. In my book ( pun intended), that makes them a liar and a cheat!! Liars and cheaters don't prosper. They have the audacity to tell reviewers to contact them before writing a bad review. Why? For them to yank your chain, make matters worse, and STILL not pay you? Play with toys, not me!!

Too good to be true
Too good to be true! I signed up hoping to get laid for book reviews. What a cool gig!
Immediately after signing up, I got an offer - $50 to review a book! Wow!
I purchased the book, showed proof, and wrote a review that fell perfectly within the guidelines.
Then, all of a sudden, right when I was ready to be paid, I had to send a photo of me holding my ID. Classic bait and switch, this was never mentioned in any of the forms or any of the hundreds of unnecessary emails they sent.
Theres no way im trusting a book review site to secure my personal information.
I sent multiple emails asking about this, and requesting another way out. No surprisingly, they were ignored and the support team sent me numerous nonsense emails in reaponse thay addressed everything but the $50 I waa promised. Ive been trying to get rid of them for several months. i give up!
My next step is to go to the Bettee Business Bureau, because. we had an agreement and it was broken.
Long story short (pun intended) I wouldnt recommend on any fronts! Dont waste your time with these bozos.
I feel duped, but in hindsight, thats why we have the saying "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is".

Hi,
This problem (like most) is caused by not reading the Review Team Guidelines before selecting the book for review.
The Review Team Guidelines do explicitly state that you will need to provide valid government-issued photo ID.
However, if you really don't want to provide the ID as required, I can likely make a special exemption for you so you can get a payment for the review(s) you already did, just as a friendly courtesy.
To get that free gift and special exemption, just send me a quick email to [email protected] with reference number 32425.
Thank you,
Scott

Not worth it for reviews, readers and authors
TLDR: Avoid OnlineBookClub.org. It promises payment for "honest" reviews, but its system is rigged to favor meaningless, positive feedback. Critical reviewers face arbitrary rejections, incentivizing dishonest positive reviews. Authors and readers are misled. This site prioritizes profit over integrity.
OnlineBookClub.org claims to be a hub for readers, reviewers, and authors. It promises payment for honest reviews and exposure for authors. However, its attempt to serve these three groups simultaneously creates a conflict of interest.
The promise of paid "honest" reviews is a clever manipulation. Payment is contingent on approval, but guidelines are vague and arbitrarily enforced to reject critical reviews. This is achieved through:
Arbitrary Grammar Policing: Shifting, inconsistent grammar rules are used to reject reviews, exploiting the flexibility of English grammar rules (esp. commas, hyphen, etc).
The Spoiler/Detail Paradox: Reviewers are trapped between providing too little or too much detail (flagged as spoilers), leading to arbitrary rejections.
Arbitrary Editor's Rating: 40% of approval is based on subjective editor ratings, adding further arbitrariness.
Faced with these arbitrary standards, reviewers learn to write generic, glowing reviews. This maximizes their "hourly earnings" by minimizing effort per review. The result: even poorly written books receive indistinguishable, positive reviews.
Consequences: Readers are misled by insincere reviews. Authors receive false feedback, hindering their growth. The practice of paid reviews raises ethical and legal concerns, blurring the line between genuine opinion and advertising.
Conclusion: OnlineBookClub.org is not a genuine book community. It's a system built on exploiting reviewers and manipulating authors and readers. Avoid this platform if you value honest reviews and genuine feedback.

Don't ever fall for this scam
Don't ever fall for this scam. They make you buy a book with your own money and then promise to pay you for your review. However, they never pay you for your review. The website is impossible to navigate. It looks like it was designed by a second-grader in the 90's. They tell you that your review doesn't meet their "guidelines" and that your grammar is poor so they reject your review and don't give you a chance to make corrections. I waisted time and money on a terrible book. Don't make my mistake.

Disappointed...Never Again
I have sat on this for a while because I felt so many emotions (frustration and anger mostly). I found this site back in 2023 and couldn't believe it, getting paid to read books? How cool! It doesn't make you rich but a few extra dollars here and there never hurt anyone.
I only read a few books because the process of trying to get a review published is EXCRUCIATINGLY painful. You have MULTIPLE editors look at your review(s). They can reject your review for the simplest mistake (ie. Missing a comma) and it can take WEEKS before your review is looked at again.
Last year, I was offered a chance to be an editor and I foolishly accepted it. You are paid a MINISCULE amount to read multiple reviews in a given time period.
You are required to review a certain amount of reviews in a week and when I didn't hit the amount (it was a holiday week...) I was booted from editing.
I made around $30 editing reviews, I spent time and effort doing this work, so I should be compensated right? ....right?
WRONG.
I reached out to support and they weren't helpful at all. They kept giving me the run around, speaking to multiple people (who didn't understand English it seemed well.....) and I kept reaching a dead end. I just wanted to be compensated for work I did for them...I had no interest in trying to become an editor again.
It led to me speaking to the owner of the website, who claimed the only way I could get the money, was to reach the $50 threshold in order to be paid for my work. I said, no thanks, I didn't want to edit anymore just give me what I made.
After following up with the owner MULTIPLE TIMES (he claimed he was working on a program to pay editors before reaching the $50 max) he then tells me he's "so busy running a company" that he has no time to work on this program. He says to reach out to support to see if I could be reinstated as an editor and reach the $50 to be paid.
...what an arrogant and dismissive attitude. I also run a business and I am appalled at the response; if I spoke that way to my clientele I would be out of business.
I am extremely disappointed and wanted to warn others...especially if they offer you to be an editor. Don't do it!!!! You'll be underpaid, treated poorly, and be stressed out.

I used to review books...
I used to review books, but honestly it's not worth the money. They have strict guidelines and policies that change often. I worked so hard to write a review for it to be marked as plagarism/Ai because of "generic language" and I was never paid. Additionally, they will not let you access part of your account. I undertand wanting to keep the integrity of the platform, but AI detectors are usually wrong. It's frustrating and extremely disappointing when you're dismissed and treated this way. Its especially aggravating for someone who's in the communication field. I'm never recommending them again...

Updated: Cannot Be Convinced, and Now Bribery
Another update: After editing this post I was asked to contact trustandsafety at onlinebookclub.org. When I did it was claimed that I had not read the Guidelines before "selecting" a book to review. What had actually happened was that I was contacted via email with an offer to review a specific book for $30. The next email stated, "If you read the Guidelines, then you know it is a violation of the
> Guidelines to leave public negative comments about OnlineBookClub. The next email tried to bribe me into removing this post: "If you used the option to resign and thereby forfeit all pending payments, I can undo that for you once you remove the TrustPilot review you left." Wow. Not allowed to post the truth about an experience. Isn't that just wonderful for people looking for information about onlinebookclub.org. By the way, the only 2 books I looked at on the site were amateurish. Avoid this "book club" at all costs; you're better off with your local library.
January 10 and I still have not been paid for the job I did for them. They keep asking for more documentation, and now, since I quit the review group I can't provide the duplicate document they are asking for. What a sham. And the first book I agreed to review was so bad I resigned from the job. Then I was offered $30 to review another book. It was just as bad as the first, but I read and reviewed it for the promised $30, which they now refuse to give me.
Update: After a frustrating 2 days of back and forth over the holiday, then a day of silence, I was finally advised that I could simply change my user name a resolve the whole issue. How frustrating.
Previous review: My legal name is Margaret, but I have always been known as Peggy. I signed up for Amazon as Peggy, and Onlinebookclub as Margaret. I had started reading one book, but it was so bad I couldn't finish it. Then I was offered $30 for a review. The next book was poorly written and plotless, but I wanted the cash so I finished it.
When it came time to get paid the receipt listed Peggy as the owner of the Amazon account. Although I provided several documents showing that Peggy and Margaret are the same person, they could not be convinced and I was not paid. Even my bank cashes checks made out to Peggy, but onlinebookclub just couldn't be convinced.
Response from OnlineBookClub.orgJul 24, 2026
Hi, Peggy,
Your Amazon name and legal name do not need to match.
Instead, if they don't match, you simply need to enter your Amazon Display Name into the field labeled "Amazon Display Name" on your Review Team Preferences tab.
Don't worry; that's an easy fix if you missed that step.
The confusion with the Amazon Display Name as well as the other ones all come from not reading the "Review Team Guidelines" before doing the review, which explains all these things clearly.
All of this is easily fixable. You'll just want to make sure to read the Review Team Guidelines now if you haven't already so you know what to fix and how to fix it to come into compliance with the Guidelines.
I can personally walk you through that super easy process and then help make sure the payment gets approved and sent asap for you. For that, just email me at:
