Best Option for Multi-Country Global Travel: Great Features and Service
I have used OneSimCard since UnitedMobile (or whatever they were called) went under. I was impressed right from the outset when the OneSimCard people offered a free SIM to folks who got stuck with unusable SIMs and lost credits. What a smart way to get new customers! I also love that they treat North American customers in a consistent manner and offer free shipping to Canada. The cards work as advertised and I use them with my phone, my iPad, plus I have a spare one for family members when travelling. I have successfully used the card all over central Europe as well as in Australia, Mexico and, if memory serves, even Japan. Last year on a trip to Vienna I did a detailed comparison : I used the phone as I would normally (calls and data) and spent $107.16 in about a week. Although that may sound expensive to some, the Rogers Mobility undiscounted cost would have been $1,253.42. Even with their roaming packages it would have been $383.75 ... so it was all well worth it. I also use the Personal Extra Number (PEN) service and forward my Canadian mobile to that number which is a really cost effective way to stay in touch - although SMS forwarding would be really helpful feature to add (but I am not sure anyone else does that). I have had the odd glitch or network connection problem but so far nothing that a phone reboot wouldn't fix. Sometimes my phone's clock doesn't get set correctly from the roaming network due to an apparent timezone/daylight saving time glitch, but that is also a minor issue. Potential users should also keep in mind that it is a callback service but even that was easy to overcome with their Android app. I have just switched to iPhone and so have NOT checked the iOS version. If anything I would like OneSimCard to add more and better data roaming packages. I also find the European text plans and the need to use the TravelSMS menu a bit silly but, again, these are small annoyances. Also, I will say that it is possible to save more money when travelling to only one country by using a country-specific SIM, which I have done on a trip to Sweden. On a multi-country trip or in countries where it is hard to get a pay-as-you-go SIM I would not leave without it since it offers a consistent global number, predictable/low cost, good features and great support..
