Spay Experience
On Thursday, September 17th, I took my 7 month old puppy to get spayed at Ocean County Vet. We've taken our bird there for about 10 years so of course I had to take my new puppy there. She received all of her shots there and I've never had any issues with them until last week. The spay procedure itself went well and the doctor was great. After I picked my dog up on Thursday, we came home and she slept for the rest of the night. On Friday I noticed a thick scratch on her stomach and thought it was from her nails because she kept crying, trying to itch it. Saturday morning I looked at it again and it was a large burn; like razor burn from when they shaved her before surgery. I called immediately and was told on the phone that this is common (I've never heard of this happening before) and it would be free to come in to have a doctor look at her, but if any medication needed to prescribed, I would have to pay. I know plenty of people with dogs and puppies and those who have had this surgery have never told me their dog got razor burn from being shaved. Also, if I did take her, I should not have been responsible for paying for anything. They also told me if I chose to not come in, to use a small amount of neosporin, which I ended up doing and it is healing now. I wish I could attach a picture in this review to show the burn she had. I was very satisfied with everything up until this. If this was so common, I should've been informed that before leaving that within a few days, she might develop razor burn from being shaved. I've been a loyal customer to this vet for years, along with my mom, and this incident might turn us to go to another vet.
