Scam or Unprofessional
I don’t know if newyorkpublishinglabs is a scam or if it is just an unprofessional company. I hired them to make the illustrations for my book and publish it with on-demand printing in many locations. My contact person that was creating the illustrations had multiple errors every step of the way. Most of the illustrations had to be fixed over and over and often I was not understood and I had to send my own AI pictures to illustrate what I meant. There was high pressure to purchase expensive marketing plans. The person I talked to was rude and angry that I wasn’t buying anything more. There was also high pressure to purchase books to be put into a New York City book fair, but when I asked about the book fair, they couldn’t tell me where this book fair was located. When I finally did get the illustrations with words printed on the page, the words were all capitalized and orange. They clearly did not understand children’s picture books. They did not have a secure way for me to send my banking and social security number to get paid for the sales of my book, instead they asked for that information through email. All of this indicated a huge red flag that they don’t know what they’re doing and/or that I was being scammed. I pulled out of the project and lost $1300, but I did get a $200 refund.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We take every concern seriously and would like to clarify the facts for other readers. Services: Our distribution services were introduced through the relevant assigned representative, whose role is to explain and assist how the services might can help an author make the most of their work. Whether to continue, take, pass or discontinue the services is always the author's decision. Personal information: Our publishing package gives the author 100% ownership of their work. To release royalties, professional platform policy requires sensitive identity details to be verified for account validation under author name, and we ask authors to submit and update these themselves rather than through any third party. If an author chooses to share details with someone else, that is their own decision and should be made under confidential terms. Termination and refund: The author voluntarily chose to end the services, and we hold complete formal record of that request. In line with our refund policy, we agreed a settlement for the portion of work not carried out with due respect of author hold, and the refund is being paid under that written agreement. This was not due to any shortcoming on our part, but the author's decision to step back and accept agreed refund. We stand by the accuracy of our records and will provide them to the relevant parties when required, to protect our company from inaccurate claims. We remain open to resolving any outstanding concern directly and respectfully, and you can reach us at [email protected].
