The interface feels dated and awkward to use, and I found the way Hacker News operates frustrating overall. The community atmosphere was an even bigger disappointment. To me, it felt like a cliquey, self-promotional echo chamber—too much posturing and mutual back-patting, and not enough genuine discussion. What I encountered often came across as people promoting themselves and congratulating one another while acting intellectually superior. An underwhelming and unpleasant experience, both in usability and community culture.

Hacker News is just another toxic platforms like Reddit where they abuse the downvote button and don't make healthy discussions. It's full of cowards behind screens who downvote others for stating facts that challenge their comfort bubble. People have gotten banned for calling out abusive administrators who control this platform. Not only that but this platform rewards misogyny in the technology industry. Which doesn't surprise me if women have left this pseudo-intellectual platform that treats them horribly.

It's cool! I use it to check out the latest tech news; there's a lot of great stories on there. I especially like jgrahamc and the other people on the site who make the community what it is. However, I DON'T like that it's being used as a support forum for Stripe. It should be banned, IMO. Quite frequently people post an Ask HN about an issue they're having with Stripe, it makes it to the front page, and then someone from Stripe actually does something.

This was great when the community was more focused towards news related to software development. Nowadays, it seems that anything strange makes it to the top page, like new species of dinosaurs discovered and whatnot.
