Making Connections with Compassion
What made this experience so meaningful was the variety of opportunities our group had to learn what missions can look like in different settings. Throughout the week, we participated in street witnessing, partnered with a local church to work in their community garden, renovated homes damaged by Hurricane Helene, and assisted with ongoing hurricane relief efforts. What I loved most about the week was that the mission was not only to serve but also to build relationships and love the community well. It was a privilege to connect with the people of Asheville, hear their stories, and pray with them. Taking the time to listen and build genuine relationships helps people feel seen, heard, and valued. Rather than beginning with a message, we began with compassion and allow the Holy Spirit to work in people's hearts. Taking time to learn people's names, hear their stories, and understand their experiences. As trust grew, many people became more open to sharing their hearts, allowing natural opportunities to talk about faith and the hope we have in Jesus. Those connections also helped our mission team better understand how to pray specifically for the people we met and continue to support them beyond our time there. I also loved building relationships with the leadership team at Mission Discovery. Don and Ana were incredible leaders who guided and encouraged our team as we served the Asheville community. Their leadership, support, and heart for ministry made a lasting impact on our experience. Thanks for this wonderful experience.

We’re so glad your experience in Asheville went beyond the work itself and gave your team opportunities to truly connect with the community!! Hearing that you were able to listen to stories, pray with people, and help others feel seen and valued is such an encouragement. We’re thankful the Lord used the week to grow your team’s understanding of what it means to love and serve others well. And thank you for your kind words about Don and Ana—we’re blessed to have them on our team!! We’d love to have you back again!!
