Unethical business practices and excessive fees
My credit card was on autopay, but due to a layoff, my income declined, and the account I usually use for autopay did not have the funds. As soon as I realized this, I went in (the same day the payment was due, as my bank immediately notified me of the decline) and paid the credit card using a different bank account. Mercury then attempted a second payment (even though the monthly payment had been made) from the account with no funds, and of course, the payment declined. They then charged a 'returned payment fee', and when I called to get clarity (as their website is very confusing), they stated they could not stop the payment even though the card had been paid manually. I requested a refund of the fee as I had paid the card as agreed, and they refused. I told them it is unethical to charge fees when the account was paid as agreed, and that they absolutely can program their system to not pull if the payment has been made, and the service rep said nothing, would do nothing, and then I was conveniently disconnected while waiting for a supervisor.
