Master Organic Chemistry LLCReviews of masterorganicchemistry.com

These organic chemistry resources are amazing! The PDF cheat sheets are probably my favorite feature. Furthermore, the developer, James, is incredibly involved and it's clear he cares about the quality of his resources. I'm going back to school after nearly a decade and I wish I had MOC when I was going through undergrad the first time. I will also say it directly contributed to my A+ in the class. I'd highly recommend MOC to anyone taking OCHEM!

I used Mastering Organic Chemistry a ton while taking ochem and it was genuinely one of the most helpful resources I found. The explanations were easy to follow and helped a lot when something from lecture was not clicking. My biggest recommendation would be adding more acid/base ranking problems. My professor absolutely abused us with those, especially questions involving good vs. bad resonance structures and how that affects pKa. More practice with those types of questions would make the site even better. Otherwise, I loved the site and would definitely recommend it to anyone taking organic chemistry.

This was the best learning aid I had that got me through orgo 1 and 2. The supplementary materials like the reagent guide and reaction maps explained things so that I was able to perform complicated reverse syntheses without hyperventilating. Even if you don’t join monthly, get the extra materials. They will make orgo almost pleasant. I recommend joining. The quizzes will not only prepare you for anything your prof throws at you (or the ACS), but the explanations of the answers give a great foundation for any future classes.

Great study aids and material. Affordable. Also loved the blog side explaining deeper topics of the material. Helped me tremendously in getting an A in my Organic Chem II class with a deeper dive and reaction diagrams, practice problems and the whole enchilada. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a little bit more of a boost with their classroom material like myself.

You know how a good story just makes time pass by like nothing? Well, somehow James Ashenhurst makes Organic Chemistry feel like a great story. I learned so much and even got into a chemistry PhD program because of his help!

I have been teaching Organic Chemistry at the university level for years. I can honestly say that having this resource available to my students--and especially the Practice Organic Mechanisms workbook--has been a huge help for my students. When I ask them at the end of the year which things were most helpful for learning Organic Chemistry, MOC and the POM books are unanimously mentioned. In fact, their only suggestion is that I should assign more of the book! Especially in this digital age of AI, students benefit more from these resources than ever before. I am sold.

I have used Master Organic Chemistry (MOC) since 2021, starting as an undergraduate and continuing into grad school, and it has consistently been one of the most useful resources for understanding and practicing organic chemistry. The explanations are clear, well organized and focused on helping students understand the reasoning behind reactions rather than simply memorizing them. Furthermore, James is an excellent educator who has a talent for making difficult organic chemistry concepts feel manageable. Additionally, the website is very user-friendly and organized in a way that makes it simple to find a specific reaction, reagent, mechanism, or concept without wasting time. James also does an excellent job of including references and connecting his explanations to literature. Now, as a graduate student, I use it for quick reviews, checking reaction logic and revisiting concepts before going into more advanced literature. Overall, James has created a trustworthy, user-friendly resource that has grown with me from undergraduate organic chemistry into graduate level work. MOC remains one of the first places I turn for clear explanations, practical guidance and reliable references.

I love the notes! I am taking Organic Chem over the summer at Northwestern University, and it is a pretty fast-paced course so I don't really have time to make my own noted. This site has been a great help and I wish I knew it before I started taking the course. As an international student on full financial aid at Northwestern, this might be the first time I spent some money on educational material because I really think it is worth it!
