Fraudulent harassing company, possibly phishing scam
This company found my authors profile on amazon and are now constantly sending me false legal notices like this: Aug 13, 2025, 12:46 PM (2 days ago) to m**k j***son Hello, This is a formal advisory regarding your obligations under U.S. federal copyright law as the registered rights holder of your book. As per the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA, 17 U.S.C. §512), you are required to appoint and register a DMCA Designated Agent with the U.S. Copyright Office if you have got the copyrights of your book registered and your content is being published or distributed online (including Amazon, Kindle, IngramSpark, personal websites, or blogs). Failure to comply with this requirement may result in the permanent loss of your legal ability to enforce takedown notices for pirated or infringing versions of your work. What This Means: Without a valid DMCA agent registration, you cannot compel Publishing & hosting platforms or ISPs to remove stolen versions of your book. Your intellectual property may be freely distributed, modified, or sold by others, with no enforceable legal recourse. Next Step: Provide Your DMCA Registration Number: Please respond to this message with your DMCA Agent Registration Number and the name of your designated agent. ***If you have not yet registered, we urge you to take immediate action*** Sincerely, M**k J***son Sr. Legal Consultant This is my response to this bs company: Subject: Cease and Desist – Harassment and Fraudulent Claims To: M**k J***son – Hexa Publishers Date: 8/15/2025 Mr. J***son, This is a formal legal notice in response to your unsolicited and misleading communication dated 8/13/2025. Your message contains materially false statements regarding my obligations under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512), with the apparent intent to induce me into providing personal or business information under fraudulent pretenses. For clarity: The DMCA’s Designated Agent registration requirement applies solely to online service providers as defined in §512(k), not to individual authors who publish through third-party platforms. Your assertion that failure to register a DMCA agent would result in “permanent loss” of my rights to enforce copyright is false and constitutes a misrepresentation of U.S. copyright law. Any further contact of this nature will be considered harassment and an attempt at fraud. Accordingly, you are hereby directed to: Cease and desist from sending me any further misleading or deceptive communications. Remove my contact information from any solicitation or mailing lists you maintain. Be advised that your conduct has been documented and will be reported to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), and other relevant authorities for investigation of fraud and harassment. Any further communication from you or your affiliates, except to confirm compliance with this notice, will be considered willful harassment and may result in legal action seeking damages, attorney’s fees, and injunctive relief. Sincerely, C.R. Beaumont (Christopher R. Beaman)
