Excellent guidance on timing
I was confused because my travel agent told me my United ticket was "locked" for any name changes since my departure date was close. I searched online and found Flying Rules, where I got a much clearer explanation. They explained that United doesn't have a fixed hour-based deadline for name corrections. Instead, the ticket becomes locked once you complete the check-in process. They also advised submitting a name correction request at least 72 hours before departure to allow TSA information to sync properly. They even explained what to do if you've already checked in, which is to contact a United gate agent at the airport for assistance. The information was clear, practical, and much more helpful than what I had been told elsewhere. Highly recommended if you need reliable airline policy information.
