I booked a house through Airbnb using Downeast Properties. I was contacted well after I had a confirmed reservation and my credit card had been charged for the full amount, that there was a mistake and the owners wanted the property for those dates. I explained that this place was close to where we needed to be for a memorial service and that there were no other places available. We had also booked our non-refundable airline flights. One of the reasons we had to be close is that we are traveling with a baby who has difficulty with lengthly trips in a car seat. My reservation was canceled without my permission after I had a legal and binding contract. My emails were answered with "Best of luck" and "Best wishes to you". These people are dishonest as is Airbnb. If I had canceled after 48 hours (and this took place well after 48 hours), I would have only received 50% of my money back minus a "service charge". This reservation was for more that $2000. I tried to get additional compensation since now we are greatly put out by this but I got no satisfaction. Do not do business with these people.
