I’ve been working with Team Contrarian since June, and it has already been a game changer for me as the owner of The Closet Edit, a personal styling company. I had the opportunity to have a one-on-one call with Codie, and of course, I immediately put what we discussed into practice. I restructured our pricing and the way we package our services, and within the first month of making those changes, we increased our sales. Over the past four months, I’ve been implementing the different pieces Team Contrarian teaches around scaling, and one of the biggest shifts has been finding more time to actually work ON my business instead of constantly working IN it. We’re only four months in, and I can’t wait to see where The Closet Edit is eight months from now!

I just renewed for my second year in the boardroom at contrarian thinking and I can never say enough good things about this company, it's entire team, and all the ways they help small businesses. Carter specifically has been the biggest help since day 1. He knows exactly what he is talking about, never forgets a single thing about your business, and challenges you to be a better owner every day. He's the definition of a great coach! Everyone at CT is on the same mission and it is evident how committed each team member is to that mission. I can't recommend them enough!

Nothing beats having our Monday night live events. Listening to all types of very specific businesses with their own sets of books and information allows us to understand multiple industries and markets and hones our ability to know what questions we should consider before ever starting the conversation with the broker. We have a lot more confidence heading into the LOI and onward because we know there is a community of like minded people behind us.

What an incredible team of people to work with! I have been so impressed by both the value add and the overall accessibility of the CT advisors. While going through my first deal cycle, I got very timely feedback and thoughtful guidance from a number of people (Dan, Heather, Stephanie, Rylan, William) on a daily if not hourly basis. Jordan has been super proactive on the SBA front as well. I was not expecting this level of engagement and couldn't be more grateful given I am new to the game! It is a huge gift and value to be able to forge ahead with greater confidence and preparedness.

I’ve been with CT for 10 months now and it is a great platform, service and community. I’ve learned a lot and there’s still more to learn. The ambassadors and facilitators are amazing and always ready to help. HUGE bonus of they know what they’re talking about and most have gone through it before. Also the training videos are not dry and move pretty quick. I like it and recommend it to all my friends that are into SMB acquisitions. Lots of connections and partnerships and recommendations that seriously help! This is not a done for you acquisitions program but they will help you know their opinions and give you suggestions for how to proceed and protect yourself and your investment/business acquisition. The deal review team assembled by Contrarian Academy is absolutely stellar. So many times, I’ve been blown away by the depth of things I’ve learned. Also, the number of resources you get access to through Contrarian Academy is overwhelming. You could spend all your time, and still not run out of resources to use.

This community is full of intelligent, authentic, helpful, positive, entrepreneurial people. CT does a great job vetting people that are serious about entrepreneurship/buying a business. I made some great friends and connections over the last 12 months that have been helpful sounding boards for deals. Direct Outcomes that Contrarian made possible: • Understand how to effectively source deals – both on-market and off market and how to present myself as a competent buyer/business owner • How to tell apart brokers that are helpful and brokers that are not helpful • How to find and vet a deal team and understand/budget for these costs in my business acquisition journey • How to write my own LOI (without paying a lawyer each time, saving me thousands of dollars) • The extent to which I can perform my own Due Diligence vs. what I should pay for • Helped me with clearly defining my deal box – which has evolved over the last few months as I have learned about different businesses The people that work at Contrarian are also great! At contrarian camp I had a chance to meet Brittany and learned she is the mind behind mindset and special topics calls. It’s been great seeing her more active in the calls and encouraging people to take the scary step towards business ownership. Both Brittany and Jordan did an amazing job keeping the energy up at camp and getting everyone to participate. Jordan, is super helpful and knowledgeable and usually responds within 1.3 seconds – I’m convinced there are a few clones of him in their office. Claire, one of the concierges, is probably a time traveler – anytime I reach out with a random question or request, she gets back to me before I even asked. The coaches are diverse and all bring great perspectives to every deal that helped me in developing my own mindset on how I evaluate a business that is “good” for me. All advisors are no non-sense and help members see the risk in their deals and balance risks with deal structure. I’m grateful for the direct, constructive, and helpful feedback I received that kept me from making mistakes or wasting time. The services the academy offers improved significantly with the onboarding of Rylan and Stephanie this year. This place went from a community where you can get some good advice to a place full of resources that help close deals. I wasn’t planning on renewing, but after experiencing these improvements and seeing there is more to come, it was worth continuing my entrepreneurship journey with this community. The only complaint I have is transparency around pricing and discounts. My preference would be a flat fee for everyone (without "free" add ons) so the decision to renew or go to an event can be quicker. I also received a trophy for renewing that I know don’t know what to do with – I would have taken pens, notebooks, business books – something I can use in my entrepreneurial journey over a trophy that is sitting in a drawer.

We were part of another community that trained people on how to flip houses. It was similar to the Contrarian Thinking Community, and we were members of that community for four years. Unfortunately, the mentors and trainings weren’t very easy to understand. The people training us often talked over our heads, and we never felt like we received the kind of training we needed. Because of that, we weren’t very confident in what we were learning or in our ability to actually apply it. Because of that experience, we were apprehensive about joining the Contrarian Thinking Community. We’re so glad we took the chance and joined! We are learning so much, and we feel like everyone at CT is incredibly kind. They love what they do, genuinely want to help, and truly care about helping us find the right business and become successful. There are so many people we think are amazing. Just to name a few: Heather & Chris Williams, Stephanie Veal, Robert Schiller, and Jordan Gregory. We could go on and on! We are especially thankful that when we get on calls to learn, everyone speaks in a way that is easy to understand. We never feel like we’re bothering anyone when we ask lots of questions. Instead, they truly want to help us understand and succeed. We would highly recommend the Contrarian Thinking Community to anyone who wants to run their own business. We’re very thankful we took the chance and joined!
