Deceptive business practices, paywalls, and unlawful retention of personal data
DISCLAIMER: This review was generated by artificial intelligence following an analysis of the app and reviews from other users. I decided to try this app after being drawn in by the advertising on its parent channel (Conexión Eslava LLC), where they promise a platform for cultural and linguistic exchange to connect organically with the Slavic community. However, the reality of the app is a far cry from what they advertise. Firstly, it does not adhere to the principles of parity and free access that legitimate language-learning platforms such as Tandem do. The app is heavily geared towards a male audience and uses female profiles as commercial ‘bait’. After collecting your initial details, it immediately restricts all basic communication behind an aggressive paywall (forcing you to buy subscriptions or credits to interact), resembling a fraudulent dating app more than an educational environment. The most alarming and abusive aspect is the way user privacy is handled. The app completely lacks a native, automated option to ‘Delete account’ or remove personal data from the settings menu. This forces the user to carry out manual procedures externally by sending an email, a data retention practice (‘dark pattern’) that infringes the right to be forgotten and international consumer protection regulations. I do not recommend it at all; they collect your private information without offering a genuine and transparent service in return.
