AWFUL! I was promised a "hand holding" experience; it's very DIY. Now I just learned my business is in bad standing with the state (found out on my own, like all things) and who knows when they'll help. Consistently amazed at how far their sales pitch is from their services.

Absolutely horrible experience
Absolutely horrible experience
This company is poorly organized as my books were never done or updated after 3 months of paying them for bookkeeping services.
I canceled with them and they are still trying to charge me after saying they canceled my membership.
You're better off finding a bookkeeper on FIVER to do the job as opposed to an agency like this.

Horrible experience, go anywhere else but here.
It's been 1 month since I joined, and so far, my experience working with the DMV has been better. They took my money, and have not done anything - no LLC/SCorp has been filed, no emails or communication in terms of updates. AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS.

I want to like Collective but, no
I want to like Collective. The staff is very friendly and fairly knowledgeable but there seems to be something inherently disorganized about their whole process and team. I am passed from one person to another there and don’t know the proper point of contact for anything. My income taxes were filed THREE MONTHS Late through no fault of my own. I don’t have a lot of faith anyone is really on top of my account. I get the impression they have taken on more clients than they can handle and are scrambling to keep up. Also their website dashboard absolutely sucks. It’s supposed to house essential documents like tax returns. I don’t have any faith they are secure there —there are technical glitches and nothing seems to work properly. For what they are charging I would expect better service!!

Hi Atoz,
We really appreciate you taking the time to leave your feedback and are sorry to hear about your experience with Collective. Beginning in 2023, our member dashboard will become a centralized hub for member tax filings. Here, members will be able to complete their tax organizers, upload documents, and view updates on the progress of their tax returns. We’ve improved our tax season communications and members will receive ongoing reminders and updates about their tax returns, as well as educational videos to support them throughout the process.
We’ve also built an in-app messaging feature and members can reach out for support directly from the Dashboard.
We take this feedback very seriously and would love the opportunity to learn more about your experience with Collective. Please email [email protected]

Atrocious Customer Service. Stay Away
I wish we had read this site's reviews on The Collective before we engaged with them. The services they offer were exactly what we were looking for and the sales person was friendly, knowledgeable and communicative.
However, once we paid the fee (and we did the up front annual fee to save money - BIG MISTAKE) the process and customer service afterwards was absolutely atrocious. The account rep assigned to our account would let 4-5 days (sometimes more) go by before responding and when he did it was with cut and paste responses that were not even answers to my questions. It was so bad that at times I felt I was in the twilight zone - how could someone be THIS bad??!
I reached back out to my sales rep a few times and eventually heard back, but no apology or explanation, just that a rep would contact me. Which they did - the same inept rep (who has "CPA" after his name) who couldn't string a sentence together.
I really wish we had gone month to month so we would not be $2500 in the hole, but live and learn I guess.
We are still waiting for our basic questions about setting up a business banking account to be answered before we can even finish the "onboarding process" (such as it is).
Stay away from this company, at least until they can get their act together and hire better people.

A Business Owner's Nightmare
Collective was exactly what I was looking for… at least that’s what I thought. I needed help getting compliant with my taxes, run payroll, and start to saving for retirement. My experience started out ok with a seemingly normal onboarding, and then an uneventful couple of months. Well, that was part of the issue, I found out. It came to light that my first account rep was dismissed from the company (due to not actually checking in on her clients). I never actually got an email/dm from this account rep in my entire time with Collective, only the onboarding team. What followed was scrambling to get my quarterly taxes filed, many items fixed on the tax compliance side (two IRS notices later…) and missed opportunities to put money in retirement for that year. They assigned me a new rep, and promised it would be better from now on. They also made the swap during that time from Slack messaging to solely an email address for messages, which I found slowed the response time by half. This was the only way to communicate with my team, which felt super sketchy (I’ll get to that later).
Again, a couple of uneventful months until late January. This time, my rep was very responsive and was generally helpful. I had already submitted all of my tax items (both personal and business) in hopes they would have it done early. I was seeing influencers on their social media channels post about having their taxes done early, and meeting with the tax team… but my account never seemed to have been touched. Nearing the end of march, I got nervous. I decided to look elsewhere for my personal return, since my business return’s first draft had finally made it to me the week before. Im glad I did. The final week of personal returns being due, they started the process of filing a personal extension! My account rep was then very sporadic in response time, usually 48 hours to sometimes a week later. At one point they quit responding for two weeks, and I felt like I had been in a long-term scam.. No other way to get a hold of them besides the hello@collective email address. When they finally responded, it was very rushed and a canned response. You could tell they were overloaded.
I never actually met with the tax team. They completed my business return (three weeks AFTER the due date I requested), but never were able to finish my personal return. I had to pay a separate Tax Professional to sort through the mess of my taxes less than three days before the April 15th due date. When Collective finally told me that they wouldn’t be able to file in time, the final straw was less than an hour later my monthly fee processed.. nice.
Overall, I’d say my experience can be summed up in “overpromised, under delivered.” They offered great services, but in reality provided only stress and headaches for a better part of a year. If you are an influencer, Sign up today! They love when people share their positive experiences on social media. If you are just a normal business owner, I’d skip on collective. They’ll leave you on read, and in the dark on your own business’ finances.
