"Buy less, choose well, make it last." -Vivienne Westwood We are inspired by the earth and its interconnected inhabitants. We are inspired by well-made tools and intentional living. All of us at ClassicShaving.com feel that the daily ritual of shaving is a time of quiet, thoughtful, almost zen-like privacy and contemplation. We believe that a task we'll perform thousands of times in life, is an opportunity for mindfulness and the chance to witness our impact on the earth. We have customers who have transformed their lives by switching to this classic method of shaving. In a world that moves and changes so quickly, it is a powerful choice to shave slowly and deliberately with a straight razor or safety razor. When using a straight razor all one needs is an artisan blade, an American-made leather strop (for maintaining the blade) a brush and soap, and the skills to use them. After the initial setup, the only waste created during the daily shave is soap bubbles down the drain. When using a safety razor the only waste is the little rectangular blade which can easily be recycled. There are three great reasons to switch to wet shaving; to save your face, your pocketbook and our planet. Make the switch today!

Not what I expected
I recently ordered the natural horn mustache comb that is made in France. The picture of the product shows a completely different comb with a brand name and a clearly marked "made in France" on the comb. What I received was a blank comb that could have been made anywhere. I contacted the customer service and told them I was unhappy with the false advertisement. Normally when a company drops the ball on their end they try to make it right but sadly ClassicShaving.com just assured me it was made in France and that I could return it for a refund. So not wanting to waste more time and money in the return process I'm keeping it. Overall, compared to other shaving sites ClassicShaving didn't impress me across the board. I won't be returning to shop there.

The item had been used previously
I purchased a $200 + wooden cabinet to display straight razors in. It arrived timely, and well protected, but obviously used, with minor but obvious grease stains and stress marks in the velour lining. Surely they realized that this would be too much of a pain for me to: not only pay the shipping to return it, but repackage it in the same manner (to protect the glass lid). I didn't pay for used, nor was it advertised as such. I have to wonder if they would sell me a previously used straight razor without telling me its true condition.

Good Service, Nice Mug, Sketchy Soap
First, I've been wet shaving for 50 years, so I have a lot of experience and have used many different soaps, razors, etc. For the last six to seven years, I've been using AOS soap and one of that company's wooden bowls, a switch from my antique Old Spice mug and Williams pucks, the quality of which had declined since I started using them when Old Spice refills were no longer available. AOS makes great, if VERY pricey products. I've been using AOS sandalwood soap and could not be more pleased with the quality, lather, scent, and consistency of same with every refill; the only problem is that the already high price kept getting higher.
We moved last month, and two things happened; first, my wife broke my Old Spice mug, which I had kept, since I'd had it for 50 years. Second, a few weeks after the move, I was getting low on soap and no longer live two miles from an AOS store. I went on-line and did a search on shaving soap refills. I saw a review about the price of AOS and mention of Classic Shaving. I checked out the Web site, and the prices seemed right, so I ordered a mug to replace the old one, since I've never been all that happy with the bowl--a little too messy. I ordered the sandalwood soap as part of the mug/soap bundle, and they arrived forthwith. No complaints about the price or the service.
Now we get to the actual products. The mug is very nice; I can work up a good lather and not get it all over the place. Doesn't have the cachet of the old Old Spice mug, but hey, spilled milk, right? The soap on the other hand, was definitely a loser. Color doesn't really mean much, but the pinkish puck was unexpected, and certainly not the color of any of the sandalwood or unscented soaps I've used in the past. Scent DOES mean much, and I don't know what the folks who made this concoction think sandalwood smells like, but that ain't it. It did lather up nicely, and I was willing to overlook the scent at least until I used up this puck. Put badger brush to face, spread the lather over the beard, and started to shave. Then the part that gets shaved last, above and around my mustache started to itch and then burn. Yeah, last straw. Puck in the trash, and try soap from another source.
Normally, I'd leave it at that, but I have to say one more thing--I get WAY too much e-mail already, and I have been studiously unsubscribing from those who feel that my giving them my e-mail address WHICH I AM REQUIRED TO DO to place an on-line order, is carte blanche permission to hit my e-mail box three or four times a week. I don't need to be sold on your products if I like them. These are not items that I am going to order unless and until I need them. If I was NOT pleased with your product, then spamming me is certainly not going to help, it's only going to tick me off. In this case, I might have forgiven the soap and picked up other products as I needed them, but after the e-mail inundation? Ain't gonna happen. Please note that the two star rating is too harsh but a three star rating is too soft--should be 2 1/2 stars--without the e-mail annoyance, they would have gotten three.

product not shipped
I would have given a better review if my order was fully completed. I only received half of the items ordered requiring a phone call to customer service.
They promised to send the items. Time will tell if I receive them or not.

We did ship them that day - we hope you received them!

A nice straight razor, but "Shave not ready"
The razor is nice, but definitively it is not "shave ready" and the edge is sharper in a side than in the another side. It is not able to cut a hair....and is not possible for me get a smooth shave with it....I have had to hone it (and pay for that service)....despite it was supposed to be correctly honed.
In one side of the blade (in the face) the razor has a scratch.
Additionally, the scales are made in wood, but they are not completely varnished (some areas in the internal side).
Really I'm not happy with my new straight razor and I would not buy it again....No need to say I think that the Control Quality of this company simply doesn't exist.....
