Carpe Diem - Dangerous and Incompetent
I am writing this review after suffering a panic attack and a subsequent surface water narcosis . My review documents the appalling performance of the Carpe Novo team, and the avoidance of responsibility by the Carpe Diem management. On 12th October after a dive to 26m - I surfaced after a 3min 6m safety stop. The sea was rough, and I struggled to stay afloat and was visibly struggling. I was sighted by my dive buddy and supported but I then blacked out. The next 20mins I was unconscious, so this is what i was told. The dive leader of the group tried to return me to the board via a ladder in stead of rapidly getting me on board via the rear entry point of the dhoni I was breathing but I was suffering blindness and paralysis on my right side. At no point did the dive crew check my condition Oxygen was not administered in that time as the oxygen mask on board was not fit for purpose on the dhoni Not one of the crew took charge and it was my fellow divers who supported me There was no urgency in treating me, instead the remaining divers were recovered while I was in a semi conscious state I had to wait until the dhoni docked with the liveabord to finally receive oxygen via a tight fitting mask Upon which my paralysis and blindness were alleviated I was then taken to Male General Hospital for a full check up, which I had to pay for Thankfully I made a complete recovery, but in a casualty situation the dive team and the crew were utterly incapable and, had my condition been serious, possibly fatal. The management of Carpe Diem are not taking responsibility for any of these failings or have compensated me for their inadequate treatment. I was gaslighted about my recollection of events and the narrative from my fellow divers was rejected. Further, my request to see the incident report were denied. I can provide corroboration from all 12 my fellow divers as to what happened. I write this as a warning to anyone considering using this company. My experience would indicate they are wholly unsafe and you are at risk being in their care
