About Beforetheybuild

Before They Build is a civic education publisher dedicated to helping everyday people understand proposed developments before decisions become permanent. Our goal is simple: make complex public information easier to understand. We create plain-language guides, printable handbooks, reference materials, and organizational tools that help residents navigate public notices, zoning proposals, planning meetings, public records, environmental concerns, and local government processes with greater confidence. We are not a law firm, engineering firm, lobbying organization, or political advocacy group. Instead, we focus on education, documentation, and preparedness. Our resources encourage people to gather facts, understand official documents, ask informed questions, and participate respectfully in public processes. Many of our educational resources are available free of charge because we believe access to civic knowledge should not depend on someone's income. Our premium editions provide professionally organized printable collections, binders, and expanded reference materials for people who want additional convenience without placing essential information behind a paywall. Our editorial standards emphasize evidence, transparency, and continual improvement. Publications include revision histories, edition information, correction policies, and trust signals so readers can understand when content was reviewed and updated. Before They Build serves homeowners, renters, neighborhood groups, community organizations, librarians, educators, journalists, and anyone seeking to better understand changes affecting their community. We believe informed neighbors make stronger communities. Our mission is to help people understand, prepare, participate, and preserve the decisions that shape the places they call home.Website: https://beforetheybuild.com
