I love beeing able to book as many classes as I want and at what time I like. Also to speak with teachers all over Latin America. In my first four weeks I have had 80 hours of conversations with 50 different teachers in nine different countries. Unbeatable!

I enjoyed very much learning Spanish…
I enjoyed very much learning Spanish thru Baselang. The only reason I have not pursued any lessons in the last many weeks, is because I have been helping my adult children with moving to 2 different far-flung places. I just could not add 1 more thing to my schedule. And I really needed to get some sleep!! :)

Basic Spanish…Plus
Just completed BaseLang’s Grammarless (changed to Bootcamp) course under the two-hour session/weekday option. Although I started the course when it was called “Grammarless”, i.e. no grammar involved/explained, I am glad the name was changed to Bootcamp because I quickly learned that you have to have “grammar” explained to learn/understand the conjugations for proper sentence composition and all the nuances of the Spanish language compared to English. In fact, after starting the course, I discovered that their lesson products are designed, to included grammar.
That said, I was assigned an excellent teacher, Diego Fernandez, from Columbia. He guided me expertly through the course curriculum, with patience, professionalism, and understanding, as the lessons ranged between easy (fácil) to difficult (difícil)…for me anyway. His teaching style was superb, as he clearly explained the “why” of the verb conjugations and Spanish language structure. He also knew the correct answer to every one of my endless questions. I completed the two-hour session/weekday Bootcamp course today. Upon completion, I am confident that I can converse, in Spanish, using common basic words and phrases on general topics. However, I did not end the course with enough fluency to discuss more complex topics or able to quickly understand someone who speaks rapidly. For me, this course did not get me to that level. Nevertheless, from Diego’s teachings, I understand how to properly compose conjugated words/verbs and non-complex sentences. As I increase my vocabulary and implement his teachings and way-forward suggestions, I know I will improve my fluency.
As a recommendation, I believe BaseLang’s Bootcamp course would benefit, in productivity and outcome, if each session was limited to one hour. I started the course a “beginner” student learning my first second language. I had a basic, cursory knowledge of Spanish words and sentence structure. Having to absorb and retain two hours worth of information each session was very challenging. The brain needs time to assimilate what is being taught, in order to retain it in your short-term memory. At times, I became frustrated, with myself, while struggling to remember what was taught in hour one. I understood that it was due to the amount of information I was asking my brain to retain. In my opinion, trying to understand/retain or teach information about a new language for two or four hours straight, is not constructive for either the student or teacher. In an effort to retain what was taught, in a two-hour session, i would spend additional time each day going over that day’s daily lesson. Even then, it was a challenge to remember what I learned the next day, as the curriculum is designed to move you through the lessons, within your specific course timeline (two or four hours / weekday). If I had selected the four-hour session/weekday option, I believe I would have retained far less or intentionally miss classes in order to give my brain a break. I was very blessed that Diego was a patient and extremely knowledgeable teacher.
If BaseLang must keep the option of a two-hour session ( along with their four-hour option), I recommend also adding a one-hour session/weekday option. In addition, I recommend adding the option, for a student, to request a change to their session length within a week of starting the course. As a new student to the Bootcamp course, they would not know how they will understand/retain information until they have actually participated in a couple of sessions and have interacted with their assigned teacher. BaseLang currently allows students the option to request a different teacher shortly after starting the course, if they do not feel compatible or able to learn from their assigned teacher. Allowing a student to request a change to the length of their session (two to four hours or vice versa) would be a similar option.
Overall, an excellent course, for me. Each lesson’s content provided new words, phrases, grammar and sentence structures. A major factor influencing my rating, however, was the teaching style and personality of my assigned teacher, Diego Fernandez. He was able to articulate the lessons well and had the patience to answer my questions.

Excellent
Excellent.
If you have enough time and can take lots of classes every week (Two a day) your Spanish skills will improve very fast. The subscription the the real world is very very worth it. All of the tutors are very good and the course material has lots of different methods to help you practice using new grammar and vocabulary. If you are serious about wanting to learn Spanish Baselang is an excellent option!
