This plan had promising coverage
This plan had promising coverage, but all it promises is deceptive, and their website and customer service are a train wreck. I would NEVER choose them for insurance again. I got them through a Medicaid plan, but it wasn't until the 2nd trimester. Before then, we were paying out of pocket for medical expenses as we could afford them, but realized that a pregnancy was beyond our financial ability. The plan promised gym membership for what looked like preventive healthcare, but in actuality, they have only two wellness facilities (as they have been described to me). If you don't live in New Orleans or Baton Rouge, you can't use them, and it basically seems you only qualify once you are obese or have a chronic condition (make it make sense!). Besides this, which was vaguely disappointing, I signed up for Bright Starts for my pregnancy, a program that is supposed to help moms with prenatal care by pairing you with a case manager to help you find a doctor, which I was having difficulty finding due to a particular circumstance. Every time I brought this up over the phone, I was talked over because that wasn't the information they wanted from me. No one from AmeriHealth or Bright Starts helped me with this process, and it took me until 26 or 27 weeks to find a new provider that was appropriate for my circumstance through trial and error. They also sent many pamphlets on their Bright Start Benefits, including their Care Card. Apparently, because I didn't see a provider until 14 weeks, before I was covered by Medicaid, which was retroactively applied (though no reimbursements were ever made), this visit, or the visit at 19 weeks that was actively covered by Medicaid, didn't trigger the card to be sent. And though I tried immediately, I also never completed a health assessment online, which should have also triggered the card. Their "health assessment" webpage pops up as a blue page with my information and a menu that, conveniently, doesn't do anything. I tried to call about this and was told the page must be down. Though I disputed this assumption, as it has been an ongoing problem (I tried to complete this assessment at least a dozen times, no one did anything to help me with it. Today I was told that I would have needed to complete a paper version of the assessment. Where was I supposed to obtain a paper version of this assessment? I don't know. I have a distinct feeling it is fictitious, as is everything else they promise to do. I don't know if I would trust this insurance for anything other than routine checkups, and then only if they fall within their imaginary window of time allotted to do so. I do know that it would have been helpful to have the card to pay for prenatals and such over time (it's a rewards system supposedly), but I guess it will still be out of pocket for me. Get different coverage if you can.
