Warranty support failed and left me without hot water for weeks
I purchased an American Standard PV40TLN6 power-vent water heater in 2023. The unit failed while it was still only a few years old and within its stated warranty period. Over roughly three and a half weeks, I had technicians from two different companies come to my home. Each time, the technician contacted American Standard for diagnostic support. American Standard directed the replacement of multiple parts, including a sensor, a control module, and an electronic gas valve, but none of those attempts restored the water heater. Replacement parts were also shipped slowly, with one taking more than eight days to arrive. During this entire process, my home was without hot water. Despite repeated calls, technician visits, and multiple parts being replaced, American Standard never produced a working repair or a timely solution. I ultimately had to purchase a new water heater out of pocket simply to restore a basic necessity. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau requesting reimbursement. The BBB made several attempts to contact American Standard, but the company did not respond, and the complaint was closed as unanswered. My concern is not only that the water heater failed prematurely. The larger issue was the warranty and technical-support process. The information provided to the technicians did not lead to a successful diagnosis, parts were shipped too slowly for an essential household appliance, and the company did not provide a practical resolution after repeated failed repairs. Based on my experience, I would not purchase another American Standard water heater. Anyone considering this brand should understand that having a written warranty does not necessarily mean the company will restore hot water promptly when the unit fails.
