ABIM now charges Maintenance of Certification (MOC) fees of $220+ per year. In return, ABIM gives us absolutely nothing. This is a worse scam than insurance. Meanwhile, ABIM executives are earninig $600-700K per year. I am hard-pressed for a reason why I shouldn't feel cheated.

Sketchy business practices. Eg, will not let you pay for services now without bundling them with services in the past that weren't provisioned. They advertised a 10-year certification but apparently changed their minds later. Programs are constantly changing; first they offered a 10 yr board certification, then there was an optional MOC program, then it became mandatory at some point without clear notification to anyone. Most reviews online are negative. There was a big scandal a few years ago, after which they went on a big PR campaign to try to regain trust.
